Lasik Xtra™

Are you considering LASIK? Ask your surgeon about Lasik Xtra

Lasik Xtra enhances the power of LASIK—in one single procedure Lasik Xtra combines LASIK with Corneal Collagen Cross-Linking to help strengthen the cornea.

This has the potential to:

  • Extend the longevity of LASIK and decrease the need for touch-up procedures;
  • Improve the accuracy of a LASIK procedure;
  • Reduce the potential for long-term changes in your vision.

What is Lasik Xtra

Recommended by leading eye surgeons around the world, Lasik Xtra is a three minute corneal cross-linking procedure performed in conjunction with Lasik.

During the LASIK eye surgery procedure, Riboflavin (vitamin B2) eye drops are applied to the cornea and illuminated with ultra-violet A (UVA) light. The light cross-links the collagen fibers within the cornea, making it stronger.

  • Fast and non-invasive
  • Performed during the LASIK procedure
  • Clinically-tested

The Procedure

Step 1 – The LASIK procedure

Numbing drops are applied to the eye, and a flap of tissue is created on the front of the cornea using a specially designed microkeratome. The flap is lifted to allow the access to the cornea so it can be reshaped by removing layers of tissue to meet the refractive requirements to correct near-sightedness or far-sightedness.

Step 2 – The Lasik Xtra procedure

The riboflavin eye drops are applied to the corneal bed and allowed to soak for 1–2 minutes. The excess riboflavin is rinsed off and the surgeon closes the corneal flap. The eye is then exposed to UVA light for a minute or so.

Step 3 – It’s complete and you can go home!
